Mind-Eyes of Nara: The Gaze in Facial-Expressionism

This year on July 4th, a solo exhibition of a popular Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara will open at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan. Everyone has seen the angry stare of the little girl with big menacing eyes, and she is called the “Frog Girl”, a figure created and painted by Nara. Several versions of the little girl, holding different objects, switching head positions, and posing various expressions, are spotted in all of the artists’ popular works. He strengthens the notion of how simple design with rich emotions and unique styles is enough to become a world-famous phenomenon. The widely loved Japanese artist is inspired by his daily lives, self-reflections, and passion for music.
