Making Mundane Things Fun

On my way home this weekend, I saw a really beautiful artwork on the floor of the Septa station at Spring Garden. The piece looks like an arrangement of flowers, but also feels very abstract. The artist used very vibrant colors, which seems to have faded over time. The fading of the flowers’ colors makes me think of a flower wilting over its lifetime. I can’t help but think whether the artist wanted to make some type of commentary using the piece, or if the piece is simply an aesthetic one made to please the viewer. Either way, the artwork makes the action of waiting for the Septa much more enjoyable. Because of this piece, I’ve started to look more closely at artworks around me that may have been made to turn boring, ordinary actions like waiting into more fun activities.
