Still Life Paintings by Holly Coulis

A Canadian painter from Toronto, Holly Coulis’ stylization of still life through abstraction and geometry can be seen in many of her artworks. Additionally, the manner in which she depicts these objects through distinct lines and strokes and her use of solid and simple colors very much reminds me of the data visualization still life exercise we did in class. Most of Coulis’ works are centered around a kitchen space and common objects such as fruits and cups, but her manipulation of the composition and perspective as well as the spacing and intersection of forms allow her works to take on a powerful and dynamic tone.
