Graffiti: a beautiful crime?

Graffiti has always been a controversial form of art, many argue that it is vandalism. However, the fact that it is illegal, coupled with the often provoking messages displayed through graffiti, pushes social boundaries and issues.

I went to New York last weekend and saw a lot of beautiful graffiti. This one was particularly striking due to its creative use of space to create shapes without the need for clear borders, and also the use of both muted and bright colors.

What do you think? Is graffiti vandalism or art?
